The Dallas Wings will face the Phoenix Mercury in their 19th game of the season on Thursday at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
As Dallas prepares for their upcoming game, the team announced on Wednesday that they signed rookie forward Liatu King to a rest-of-season contract. King previously played for the Los Angeles Sparks, who drafted her No. 28 overall in the third round of April’s WNBA draft.
The signing comes two days after Dallas traded forward NaLyssa Smith to the Las Vegas Aces on Monday in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick. Smith joined the Wings this offseason after spending three seasons with the Indiana Fever from 2022-24.
She averaged more than 10 points per game within the three years in Indiana but was unable to recreate that same level of successful performances with Dallas, as Smith averaged 6.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 18 appearances.
However, she could turn her season around with the Aces, who are currently 8-8 compared to the Wings at 5-13. Meanwhile, Dallas could put together a winning streak with King on their roster.
King, a 6-foot forward from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, appeared in 12 games for the Sparks while on a hardship contract. She averaged 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game before being released by Los Angeles on June 28.
King spent her graduate and final season of college basketball with the Fighting Irish, where she appeared in 33 games and averaged 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. King could provide Dallas with more depth and scoring heading into Thursday’s game against the Mercury, which will tip off at 8 p.m. ET.
