Dallas Wings Rule Out Paige Bueckers vs. Washington Mystics With Knee Injury; DiJonai Carrington Doubtful

Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Washington Mystics due to a right knee injury, the team announced in its official game status report.

Bueckers has been managing the injury throughout the past week. She began wearing kinetic tape on her right knee under her leg sleeve during Tuesday’s 68–55 win over the Atlanta Dream. She played 33 minutes in that game and finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Before last Sunday’s 91–88 overtime loss to Washington, the Wings’ training staff worked extensively on her right knee during pregame warmups—noticeably more than is typical in her routine. She finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists across 40 minutes.

Despite the discomfort, Bueckers delivered another strong performance on Friday night, totaling 27 points, four rebounds, and six assists in a 94–86 loss to the Indiana Fever at American Airlines Center. She played 36 minutes before a franchise-record crowd of 20,409 fans, the largest regular-season attendance in WNBA history for a game played in Texas. After the game, she was seen walking gingerly as she exited her postgame press conference.

The rookie guard is averaging 17.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game this season. Her absence is a significant loss for Dallas (4–13), already without guard Tyasha Harris, who was ruled out for the season with a left knee injury. With both traditional point guards unavailable, the Wings will again turn to a combination of secondary playmakers and off-ball scorers to initiate the offense.

DiJonai Carrington remains doubtful, having suffered a rib injury during the Wings’ road win over the Connecticut Sun on June 20. She has missed the last three games but has shown progress.

Carrington partially participated in Friday’s morning shootaround and remained on the court afterward to get extra shots up, including a made half-court attempt. She has appeared in full practice gear on both Thursday and Friday. Carrington is averaging 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists this season.

The Wings will also be without Maddy Siegrist (right knee), Teaira McCowan (national team obligation), and Luisa Geiselsöder (national team obligation). McCowan and Geiselsöder are expected to return ahead of Dallas’ July 3 game against the Phoenix Mercury.

Without Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale will be leaned on to lead the offense. Ogunbowale scored 17 points in Friday’s game, while Aziaha James and JJ Quinerly are expected to see expanded roles in the backcourt. James totaled 14 points and two assists, while Quinerly added five points and three assists.

Tipoff between the Wings and Mystics (2–14) is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Saturday at College Park Center in Arlington.
