The 2024 season was one of note for DiJonai Carrington.
She was a WNBA All-Defensive first-team selection and she was named the Most Improved Player, but perhaps the thing she was most remembered for happened during the playoffs when she was a member of the Connecticut Sun.
What happened between Carrington and Caitlin Clark?
Minutes into Game 1 of Connecticut’s first-round playoff series against the Indiana Fever, Carrington came under fire after she eye-poked Caitlin Clark and a foul was not called on her despite Clark’s eye being bruised.
Fans were calling for Carrington to be punished by the WNBA, though Clark defended the 27-year-old guard stating it “wasn't intentional by any mean.” Carrington herself also made it known the incident was simply an accident in the heat of the moment.

“I don't even know why I would intend to hit anybody in the eye,” Carrington said, via ESPN. “That doesn't even make sense to me. But no, I didn't. I didn't know I hit her, actually. I was trying to make a play on the ball, and I guess I followed through and I hit her. Obviously it's never intentional. That's not even the type of player that I am.”
Well now another big moment in Carrington’s career has a Clark tie after she was traded from the Dallas Wings to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, less than 24 hours after Dallas lost to Clark’s Fever on Friday (Clark didn’t play).
The Wings sent Carrington to the Lynx on Saturday in exchange for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson and Minnesota's 2027 second-round pick.
In Friday’s 88-78 loss, Carrington scored four points along with three rebounds, an assist and a block in just 16 minutes.
The former Baylor standout is having another solid season, averaging 10.4 points, a career-high 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists, plus 1.1 steals per game. She was Dallas’ third-leading scorer behind rookie sensation Paige Bueckers (18.5 ppg) and Arike Ogunbowale (15.7 ppg).
