Dallas Wings Waive Haley Jones as Hardship Contract Runs Out

The Dallas Wings have waived wing Haley Jones, the team announced Tuesday. Jones signed a hardship contract on June 17 after injuries and national team obligations left the roster depleted.

Her release was triggered by the return of Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder, who are rejoining the team this week following the conclusion of the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket tournament. Per WNBA rules, hardship contracts must be terminated once a team regains enough active players to meet minimum roster requirements.

Jones appeared in two games for Dallas during her short stint, including a key role in Saturday’s 79–71 win over the Washington Mystics. In that game, she finished with 8 points on 4-of-7 shooting, seven rebounds, and two assists in just over 20 minutes of action. Her +23 plus-minus was the highest of any player on the floor.

“We don’t win that game without Haley,” said forward Myisha Hines-Allen postgame. “She came in talking, organizing, making passes—just doing all the little things. Offensively, her footwork was amazing. She made extra passes, skip passes—those matter.”

Head coach Chris Koclanes also praised Jones’ contributions, especially her defensive awareness in the team’s improvised 2-3 zone.

“She’s just really smart,” Koclanes said. “We threw out a zone we hadn’t used all year, and Haley and Myisha were back there directing traffic like they’ve done it all season. Her impact was incredible.”

Jones is in her third WNBA season and was originally selected No. 6 overall in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream. She has career averages of 3.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 15.9 minutes per game and has also played for the Connecticut Sun.

Her release reflects a difficult numbers game for Dallas, which now regains its full frontcourt rotation with McCowan and Geiselsöder returning. The Wings (5–13) will look to continue their momentum when they host the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday, July 3, at College Park Center.
