The Minnesota Lynx are the No. 1 team in the Western Conference while also riding on a five-game winning streak since a buzzer-beater, 81-80 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on June 7.
Now that the two teams will face each other once again with the season series being tied 1-1, one of Minnesota’s young stars is out for the matchup and out indefinitely.
Second overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, forward Diamond Miller has no timetable for a return after suffering a severe right knee injury and is set to miss her 12th consecutive game. She has not played since the Lynx lost 83-82 in overtime against the Connecticut Sun on May 23.
Prior to sustaining this major injury, the Maryland product averaged 4.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists and started in the first three games of Minnesota’s season.
As a rookie last year, Miller made an instant impact for the Lynx. The New Jersey native had started in all 32 games she played in, averaging 12.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Since Miller has been out of the lineup, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve has looked to Bridget Carleton who has started every game from that point. Carleton has racked up 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game through 14 games (11 starts).
The Lynx take on the Mercury today at 5 p.m. PT inside Target Center in Minneapolis.
