Paige Bueckers, who entered the WNBA with high expectations, was viewed as an immediate star with the Dallas Wings.
After the Wings finished last season with a 9-31 record, Bueckers was selected with the No. 1 overall pick.
Previously, she played four seasons under head coach Geno Auriemma with the UConn Huskies.
As Bueckers transitions to the league, having already played two games early into her rookie season, she recently received a message from WNBA legend Diana Taurasi.
The former Phoenix Mercury star commended Bueckers' growth, saying she is excited to see her play in the WNBA and called the Wings guard one of the "best basketball players" she has ever seen.
"To see the maturation of Paige in those four-and-a-half years and what that kid went through with injuries and the expectations and the pressures of playing in Connecticut," Taurasi said, per In Case You Missed It with Khristina Williams. "What a resilient, amazing human being she is. And to get to know a little bit more in the last couple of years, and she is not only one of the best basketball players I've ever seen play basketball but she is one the best people. And you know she can cultivate galvanize a team and really tap into the best of her teammates, that skill, that skill is uncharted waters. So excited to see her play in the WNBA."
During her last season with the UConn Huskies, Bueckers led the women's college basketball program to a national title.
The UConn star capped off her final season at the collegiate level, averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game
She is now looking to make an immediate impact on the Dallas Wings, bringing the winning energy to her WNBA franchise.
In her first-ever WNBA game, a 99-84 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Bueckers posted 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
