Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington had a simple but powerful message for DeWanna Bonner, who had an incredible run to the WNBA Finals with the Atlanta Dream.
Bonner and the Dream made it all the way to the WNBA Finals after sweeping the Washington Mystics and New York Liberty in the first two rounds of the 2026 playoffs. Atlanta was also able to push the Golden State Valkyries to a full seven games in the championship series, although the team wasn’t able to get the job done in the end.
Still, it was an impressive run for Bonner, who averaged 7.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 12 games during the postseason.
It’s unknown what’s next for Bonner. When she reached a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Mercury late in the season, team general manager Nick U’Ren said they allowed her to leave so she could “chase a title in what could be her final postseason.” However, she still has yet to make a decision about her career.
On Tuesday, Bonner shared a post on Instagram to reflect on her 17th year in the WNBA and express her appreciation to the Dream and the Atlanta faithful for welcoming her.
“17 years in this league, and to still experience this kind of love, energy, and excitement is something I’ll never take for granted. This move to Atlanta was life changing, far beyond winning or losing a championship! The happiness and joy that came with this city/team was unmatched!” Bonner wrote.
“To the Atlanta Dream family and teammates thank you for welcoming me with open arms. I could not have asked for a better group to do this with! We’re locked for life! To the fans, your love and support have been felt since the moment I arrived!
I’m grateful for every single one of you.”
Regardless of what Bonner decides to do next, it’s evident that she has made a lasting impact on her WNBA peers.
Carrington made that abundantly clear in her message to Bonner. She commented on her post and highlighted how she views the WNBA veteran.
“1 of 1, truly,” Carrington stated.
Carrington was teammates with Bonner from 2021 to 2024, when they were still both playing for the Connecticut Sun.
Bonner is a two-time champion and six-time WNBA All-Star. Beyond her on-court accomplishments, she’s obviously well-respected around the league.
