The WNBA regular season is scheduled to begin on Friday, but the matchup that many fans across the league have been anticipating will take place on Saturday.
After squaring off four times last year and bringing their rivalry from college to the WNBA, Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever will be hosting Angel Reese's Chicago Sky for the first game of their second WNBA season.
Clark was by far the headliner of last season, beating Reese in a landslide to win WNBA Rookie of the Year, receiving 66 of 67 votes. Clark also holds the advantage in the head-to-head battles, winning three of the four meetings.
A result that ESPN's Matchup Predictor is forecasting will happen again on Saturday.
The Matchup Predictor heavily leans towards the Fever, giving them a 69.7% chance to win, compared to the Sky's 30.3%. The oddsmakers at ESPN BET also favor the Fever, as they are heading into the game as 7.5-point favorites.
A line that seems to coincide with the results of last season's four games, which were decided by an average of 7.25 points with two of the games decided by a single point.
While many fans are eager to see these two young stars square off again, there will be some new faces in the mix this time around.
The Fever had themselves an eventful offseason, acquiring sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham, two-time WNBA champion Sydney Colson, two-time WNBA All-Defensive First-Team selection Brianna Turner, three-time WNBA champ Natasha Howard and two-time WNBA champion and six-time WNBA All-Star, DeWanna Bonner.
As for the Sky, they signed five-time WNBA All-Star and two-time WNBA Champion Courtney Vandersloot, WNBA All-Star and Olympian Kia Nurse, WNBA Champion and two-time WNBA All-Star Ariel Atkins and also drafted All-American Hailey Van Lith out of TCU.
Needless to say, with more veterans and talent around Clark and Reese, these battles should only get that much more entertaining. The game is set to tip off at 3:00 p.m. ET and air on ABC.
