The Dallas Wings lost their seventh game of the season on Tuesday to the Seattle Storm 83-77, but despite this some good news could be coming in their direction.
The organization’s plan to build a new practice facility in Far West Oak Cliff will go before the Dallas Park and Recreation Board on Thursday, according to Dallas News staff writer Myah Taylor.
If authorized by the board, a portion of Joey Georgusis Park at 1200 North Cockrell Hill Road could become the Wings' new $55 million facility.
However, if the board members decide to deny the project, Dallas will look to use another undisclosed location for the team to begin practicing by 2026, per Taylor.
Taylor claims the WNBA team is expected to move to Memorial Auditorium in 2026 under a 15-year contract, including construction for a practice facility.
Furthermore, the Wings, who play inside UT Arlington’s College Park Center for home games, would not play in Dallas until at least 2027, but the city claims they have offered the team options to move its practice facility and offices to two undisclosed sites in 2026.
This ongoing development comes as Dallas’ rookie guard Paige Bueckers was sidelined for the past two games with a concussion she received during a 97-92 loss to the Chicago Sky on May 29.
Before the injury, she averaged 14.7 points, 6.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game within the six games she’s appeared in.
However, Buecker, 23, could return to the lineup in time for Friday’s home game against the Los Angeles Sparks, as they also wait for the new practice facilities approval.
