There’s no denying that the Indiana Fever are currently dealing with the most significant challenge they’ve faced all season long. While injuries have been an issue for this squad throughout the campaign, it’s only recently that the Fever have not had a healthy true point guard on the roster.

Indiana Fever's Injury Crisis

Caitlin Clark, who missed her 10th straight game on Saturday against the Chicago Sky, still has no timetable for her return from a lingering groin injury. In fact, head coach Stephanie White revealed on Monday that the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year hasn’t been able to practice with her team yet.

On Friday, the Fever lost not one, but two of their backup guards. Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson were both diagnosed with season-ending injuries and will no longer be able to help Indiana on the court the rest of the way.

The Fever addressed the massive void by signing veteran guard Odyssey Sims on a seven-day hardship contract. While her arrival does bring some relief, the former All-Star won’t be able to fill the huge void on her own.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Praises Her Team

Indiana head coach Stephanie White remains steadfast, though. She spoke to reporters on Monday during practice and took the opportunity to heap praise on her players amid their current predicament.

"Just a high-quality character group," White said of her team. "They're resilient. They pull for one another. They don't get too high, they don't get too low.

"They believe, and that's the most important thing. They've been through a lot. They've been incredibly resilient in terms of not just on-the-court production but their attitude, their energy, they bring it every day.”

White then went on to admit that the entire squad is currently feeling “awful” about this unfortunate turn of events. However, she’s also pointed out that there is always a silver lining.

"Okay, yes, we feel awful for the ones who aren't able to play, but we feel really good about those who now get opportunity that might not have opportunity had those guys been on the floor," she said.

It’s not only Sims who’s getting another shot at the WNBA now that she’s signed with the Fever. As White indicated, other players on the roster are also going to get more playing time amid the team’s injury crisis. It now becomes a matter of these players taking advantage of the situation at hand.
