The Indiana Fever announced on Thursday that Caitlin Clark has no timetable for her return from a re-aggravated right groin injury. This suggests that the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year will be forced to sit out for an extended period, which only means that the last thing Indiana needs right now is another injury to one of their star players.
This nearly happened on Sunday as the Fever secured a convincing 93-78 victory against an Angel Reese-less Chicago Sky side. Kelsey Mitchell hit the deck after a lay-up in the second quarter of the game, and she was seen in pain as she clutched her left groin.

Indiana head coach Stephanie White spoke to reporters after the win, and one of the questions she faced was about Mitchell’s injury scare in the first half. The veteran shot-caller admitted that there is concern surrounding Mitchell’s knock.
"Obviously, there was concern when it happened," White said. "Sometimes, protecting airborne shooters and making sure that (they have) freedom of movement, all of that stuff is so important.
“So there's concerns while that's going on. Obviously, there's going to be concerns about her recovery, but not as far as anything acute that I know of. We haven't really had that conversation yet."
White also confirmed that it was a contact injury for Mitchell, which, in a way, could make the issue less worrisome as opposed to a non-contact injury.

The silver lining here is that Mitchell did not appear to be bothered by the issue. The three-time All-Star went off for a season-high 35 points to lead Indiana to victory as they improved to 14-12 after Sunday’s win.
Mitchell isn't out of the woods just yet, though. She will likely undergo tests after the game, which should help determine if she will be forced to miss time due to this problem.
Indiana’s next game is on Wednesday against the Phoenix Mercury, and they will need Mitchell to be ready for that one, especially with Clark still nursing her groin injury.
