After securing a 2-2 record through the first four games of the 2025 WNBA season, Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever suffered a big setback as All-WNBA guard Caitlin Clark will be out for at least some weeks.
On Monday, just two days after the loss to the New York Liberty, the Fever revealed that Clark suffered a left quadriceps strain and will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks.
"Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has suffered a left quadriceps strain and will be out a minimum of two weeks, the team announced today," the Fever wrote in a statement. "Further updates will be provided, as available, following re-evaluation."
Following Monday's practice session, in which Clark did not participate, White spoke to the media during the team's availability. When asked when the Clark injury happened, White revealed she wasn't sure.
"I don't know when it happened," White said. "I know afterwards we got a message that she had something going on with her leg and they were getting an MRI, and we got the word yesterday."
White was then asked if she found out about the injury after Saturday's loss to the New York Liberty, and the former Connecticut Sun coach responded, "Yes."
Steph White says Caitlin Clark reported some pain in her quad following the Liberty game. She got an MRI and was diagnosed with a quad strain, one that isn’t related to her preseason injury.

In Indiana's most recent game, White made a big change to the lineup, replacing newcomer DeWanna Bonner with Lexie Hull as a starter. But she will have a bigger challenge ahead of her with Clark not in the rotation.
When the former Iowa star missed the preseason opener with a separate leg injury, White slid backup Sydney Colson into the starting point guard position. Still, it is unclear if this is the direction White will go.
The Fever will next travel to the nation's capital to take on Sonia Citron and the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
