Fever Coach Stephanie White Reveals Punishment From WNBA

The Indiana Fever had high hopes when this season started, as many expected them to be in the thick of the race for the WNBA championship.

But so far, things have been a bit rocky for them. Caitlin Clark is expected to miss two weeks of action due to a quad injury, and they fell to a 2-3 record without her on Wednesday when they lost 83-77 to the Washington Mystics.

On Saturday, Indiana suffered a frustrating 90-88 loss to the defending champion New York Liberty in which it blew a sizable late lead. In that game, it shot 15 free throws compared to 32 for the Liberty, and it was something head coach Stephanie White mentioned afterward.

White confirmed that the league fined her, presumably because of what she said about the officiating in Saturday's contest.

In that game, Indiana seemed to take control with a dominant 30-13 third quarter that was capped by a long buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Clark. But it scored just 12 points in the final frame, and Clark failed to get off a potential game-winning 3-pointer just before time expired.

She complained to the referees because she thought New York guard Natasha Cloud, who knocked the basketball away from her, had fouled her.

The Fever will have challenging games coming up in the next couple of weeks against the Liberty and Atlanta Dream. Luckily, they added some firepower this offseason in the form of veteran two-time All-Star forward Natasha Howard, wing DeWanna Bonner and guard Sophie Cunningham.
