Fever Make Major Roster Announcement Before Season Opener vs. Sky

The Indiana Fever are just two days away from their 2025 season opener against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, and the team made a pretty significant roster announcement on Thursday.

Indiana had been trimming its roster down since its preseason opener against the Washington Mystics on May 3 as 2025 20th overall pick Bree Hall, 2025 33rd overall pick Yvonne Ejim, Jillian Alleyne, and Jaelyn Brown were all cut.

On Thursday afternoon, the Fever announced their 11-woman opening-night roster, which included lots of star power.

Guards Caitlin Clark, Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, Lexie Hull, and Kelsey Mitchell, plus forwards DeWanna Bonner, Alyiah Boston, Damiris Dantas, Natasha Howard, Makayla Timpson, and Brianna Turner all made the final cut.

“It's really difficult [trimming down the roster],” Fever coach Stephanie White told reporters on Tuesday. “I think we're looking for, No. 1, someone who is going to stay ready so they don't have to get ready.

“Somebody who's going to be probably in and out of rotation, making sure that they're okay with that, but also someone who's going to be a contributor on the floor and off the floor, I mean, in the locker room, in the huddles, being engaged. So it's time to get to this position in the season, having to make that last cut. It makes it really, really tough.”

Given their various accomplishments including 13 combined WNBA All-Star selections, four All-WNBA selections, and two Rookie of the Year awards, Clark, Boston, Hull, Mitchell, Bonner, Howard, and Cunningham were all locks.

The latter three were offseason additions under White, the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year who was also hired during the offseason to replace Christie Sides, who led the Fever to 20-20 record last season and their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Clark (19.2 points per game), Mitchell (19.2 ppg) and Boston (14 ppg) ranked first, second, and third, repetitively, on the Fever in scoring last season.
