Fever Won't 'Over Push' Caitlin Clark Amid Fear of 'Lingering' Injury

For the first time in five years, Caitlin Clark will be forced to miss a game because of an injury. What makes this situation more concerning is the fact that the Indiana Fever superstar won't miss just one game because of a left quad strain.

The Fever announced on Monday that the 23-year-old will be out of action for at least two weeks after Clark suffered the injury during Indiana's 90-88 loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday.

Head coach Stephanie White has addressed the issue at hand, and the first-year Fever shot-caller has revealed the team's plans in terms of how they intend to approach Clark's injury.

“When you think about Caitlin and her not wanting to miss games, she’s obviously a competitor and wants to play, obviously everyone wants to watch her play, you know?” White said, via the Indy Star. “But for me, it's maintaining perspective, right? It's making sure that we address this in a way that doesn't affect long term, that we take care of it.

"Don't over push, don't over exert, making sure that we take the long-game approach to this, so that we're not having lingering issues throughout the course of the season. Sometimes great players don't tell you when they're hurting. I'm glad that she did, because we need to nip this in the bud.”

As White indicated, the Fever are not going to push for Clark's return until she's fully healed from her quad strain. The last thing they want is to force her to come back before she's ready, which increases the risk of further injury.

The silver lining here is that Clark's injury happened early in the campaign, which will give her an opportunity to make up for lost time once she returns in two weeks.

For now, though, the rest of her teammates will need to hold down the fort in her stead.
