The Indiana Fever currently sit at an even 7-7, holding the third spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

The team’s offense has been driven largely by stars Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Kitchell and Caitlin Clark, the latter of whom leads the team in points (18.2), assists (8.9) and steals (1.6) per game.

However, the backcourt in particular has faced some turbulence as Clark had recently been sidelined with a left-groin injury and is now listed as day-to-day after an MRI on Wednesday.

Her absence paved the way for roster adjustments, including the waiver of veteran DeWanna Bonner and the re-signing of guard Aari McDonald to a full-season deal.

McDonald spoke with the media on Thursday to discuss her decision to return to Indiana,

"Amber and I, you know, had multiple talks just about the possibility of me coming back, and I definitely was interested, but I didn't want to go through the process," McDonald said.

"There were a couple of other teams interested, and I was just up front with Amber, like, of course I would love to be here, but I’m gonna explore just to see what the other teams are talking about. But in the back of my mind, I just knew this was the place to be."

Drafted third overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2021, McDonald earned WNBA All-Rookie Team honors that season, averaging 6.3 points, 2 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game.

She has since added numerous international accolades, including leading Australia’s WNBL in scoring and a second-team All-WNBL selection in 2024.

In college, McDonald was a two-time All-American, Pac-12 Player of the Year (2021) and a two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year (2020, 2021) playing for the Arizona Wildcats

Her return to Indianapolis marks her second stint on a hardship contract in early June, but this time she has secured a spot for the balance of the campaign.
