The Indiana Fever wants to run it back with guard Sophie Cunningham and signed her to a one-year, $665,000 contract to return to the team. Last season, Cunningham became a fan-favorite after she took on the role of being the "enforcer" for the Fever. However, her first season with the team was cut short after suffering a torn right MCL, and she was limited to 30 games.

She spent most of the time rehabbing and getting back into proper conditioning in the offseason. Ahead of the 2026 campaign, she was brought back for her second stint with the franchise.

However, most people misinterpreted her comments about her new contract. On the recent episode of her podcast, "Show Me Something," Cunningham said that her deal with Indiana was "frustrating."

Cunningham did not waste time and addressed on X about the comments she made on her show.

"I’m gonna shut this down right now. I’m not mad about the money…. I just wanted more years because I love it here. I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That’s it. That’s the truth. I think we have something very special here in Indiana!!" the former Missouri player posted.

In the short time she has spent in Indiana, Cunningham has grown to love the environment. Most Fever fans feel the same way about the guard and they were happy after it was reported that she will return.

Her co-host, West Wilson, asked Cunningham if she thought the deal she signed was better because of the new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement).

“I’m not even gonna lie to you, though, it’s a little, kind of, frustrating. Because I’m someone who, I kind of shoot it straight,” she answered. “If I wasn’t feeling good or was hesitant, I think I would have said something and been honest. Because I’m just at the point in my career where I just want to win. I just want to win.

“And so I’m not going to put my ego in front of things. And I know it is a business, but I just think I’m wired a little differently. I don’t know. I just want to win.”

Cunningham believes the Fever has what it takes to contend for a championship, and she wants to be a part of it. The WNBA guard has also built great chemistry with her teammates, Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull, who also re-signed with the team this offseason.
