The Chicago Sky may still be trying to find consistency early in the 2026 season, but one of the team’s newest players is already making franchise history.
Rookie guard Sydney Taylor received major recognition from the Sky on Thursday after the organization announced she became the first rookie in franchise history to score at least 25 points off the bench.
Shortly after the announcement was posted online, fellow Sky rookie Gabriela Jaquez reacted by reposting the team’s graphic to her Instagram story.
The interaction quickly caught the attention of Sky fans as Chicago’s rookie class continues developing chemistry during the opening weeks of the WNBA season.
Taylor has quietly become one of the more interesting rookie stories in the league. The former Louisville standout signed with Chicago in April after spending time playing overseas. She immediately made an impression during preseason action after scoring 24 points against the Atlanta Dream before eventually earning a spot on the opening-day roster.
Now, she is beginning to reward that confidence. Through her first five regular-season games, Taylor is averaging 9.6 points per game while providing valuable scoring production off the bench for Chicago. Her aggressive offensive approach has already given the Sky another backcourt option early in the season.
Jaquez reposting the announcement may seem like a small moment, but it also shows the growing connection within Chicago’s young roster. The Sky entered the year hoping to build around a new generation of talent, and moments like Thursday continue showing the support developing between the team’s rookies.
For Taylor, the franchise history only added another milestone to what has already been a promising start to her WNBA career.
