Former Virginia Tech Hokie and Kentucky Wildcat Georgia Amoore suffered a torn right ACL at Washington Mystics training camp on Tuesday. Amoore, who was selected sixth overall in the 2025 WNBA draft by the Mystics, was expected to be a key contributor right away for this Mystics team in 2025 and could have been in the Rookie of the Year race with Paige Bueckers, her teammates Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron and Hailey Van Lith. Amoore has the game to be a key difference-maker in Year 1. So this is a devastating injury for the Mystics’ outlook for 2025.
Amoore, under the tutelage of Kenny Brooks, for all of her college career, averaged 19.6 points per game and 6.9 assists per game for Kentucky in the 2024-25 season. There is this interesting tidbit for her college career as well, as she only missed one ball game in her career, which showed impressive durability.
This makes this injury a shocking one, as most ACL injuries often are. If anyone can recover from this type of injury and get back to full strength quickly, it is Amoore. Amoore is also one of those electric guards that can shoot from anywhere like Caitlin Clark, as a smaller guard she also knows how to find a way to finish around the rim as well so the Mystics will miss the electric player on the offense side of the ball as well as a great floor general.
Amoore’s injury is going to set the Mystics’ rebuild back a little bit because her abilities are going to be missed right away as that great point guard option. The Mystics team is going to be an interesting team for years to come, but unfortunately, for 2025, the Mystics’ stock takes a huge hit with this injury.
