Angel Reese is reminding everyone why she’s built for the spotlight.
After facing a wave of criticism and online hate early in the season, the Chicago Sky forward is now thriving, having just been named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week to close out June.
Reese averaged 19.7 points, 17.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals over the week, leading the Sky on both ends of the floor. She’s been a monster on the glass, recently becoming the first WNBA player in history to record 70 rebounds over a four-game span. Reese also racked up six double-doubles in her last seven games.
After the award was announced, she reposted the Sky’s graphic on X with a message that sums up her journey:
“God will never give me a storm I can’t handle.”
It’s the same quote she shared earlier this season when talking about how she motivates herself through tough nights. The numbers—and the mentality—show she’s locked in.
Before this hot stretch, Angel Reese had a rough start to her sophomore campaign. In an interview with Karli Bell, she opened up about the frustrations she faced during the Sky’s 0-4 start.
“I went through a storm through the first eight games where I couldn’t finish, and it was frustrating,” she said.
“But I trusted my work. My teammates trusted my work. And it’s finally coming through—and coming through efficiently.”
That bounce-back has been clear. In a recent win over the L.A. Sparks, Reese dropped 24 points and grabbed 16 boards on 10-of-19 shooting. Her presence in the paint has been crucial for Chicago, even as the team struggles with a 5–11 record.
The momentum also strengthens Reese’s case for a second straight All-Star appearance. She made the roster as a rookie, and with her current surge, she’s making it hard to leave her out this time.
Out West, reigning MVP A’ja Wilson earned Player of the Week honors for the Las Vegas Aces.
For Reese, though, the focus remains steady. Whether it’s bouncing back from criticism or carrying her squad, the Chi-Town Barbie continues to prove she’s built for this league—and just getting started.
