The Dallas Wings have signed guard-forward Haley Jones to a rest-of-season contract, the team announced Wednesday. She will be available for the team’s matchup against the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena.
Jones returns to Dallas after initially joining the team on a hardship contract on June 17 amid a string of injuries and international absences. She appeared in two games before being released on June 29, following the return of Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder from EuroBasket. Per WNBA rules, Wednesday marked the first day Jones was eligible to sign a rest-of-season deal.
Jones averaged 4.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in her brief stint with the Wings while shooting 57.1 percent from the field. Her most notable performance came in a June 28 win over the Washington Mystics, where she tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
To make room on the roster, the Wings waived forward Liatu King. King signed a rest-of-season contract on July 2 and appeared in two games.
The roster move comes as Dallas looks to rebound from a 102–72 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Monday night. Rookie guard JJ Quinerly led the Wings with a career-high 18 points, including four made threes, while Aziaha James extended her double-figure scoring streak to seven games with 15 points. Teaira McCowan contributed nine points and tied for the game high with a season-best 10 rebounds.
Dallas was unable to slow down Phoenix’s offensive attack, led by Sami Whitcomb’s 36-point night and a triple-double from Alyssa Thomas. The Mercury used a 19-0 run in the third quarter to break the game open and shot 47.4 percent overall with 14 made threes. The Wings committed 18 turnovers, which Phoenix converted into 24 points.
Despite the loss, Dallas won the rebounding battle for the third straight game, finishing with a 44–43 edge on the glass. The Wings now sit at 6–14 on the season entering Wednesday’s contest against the Sky. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT, with local coverage on KFAA29 and streaming on WNBA League Pass.
