'I Went Back Into The Game To Help DB': Caitlin Clark Addresses Controversial Late Game Return Vs Sky, Clears Out Air On Helping Dave Portnoy’s Wager

Caitlin Clark recently spoke out in an interview about her strange decision to get back in the Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky game on Saturday. Clark has been accused of making a late return to the game in the fourth quarter just to create a triple double record. Apart from creating the record, Clark also helped Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, make about $350,000 that night, since he wagered that the Indiana Fever star would score a triple double in that game.

In their first-ever game of the new WNBA season, the Indiana Fever took on the Chicago Sky and posted a beautiful win. Clark herself chalked up 20 points for the team, grabbing ten rebounds and assisting ten times, recording her first triple double in the season.

“I went back into the game to help DB (DeWanna Bonner) get her in the third on the all-time scoring list,” Clark said. “If you were watching the game, we were struggling a little bit there to her even get the ball at half-court. I told Steph, ‘Let me go in there.’ It was driving me nuts on the baseline not watching DB get this.” Caitlin Clark explained her reason to get back in the game in the final quarter in a recent interview.

Indeed Clark’s strategy did help DeWanna Bonner post a new milestone in her career. The Indiana Fever forward is officially a top-three scorer in WNBA history. In the game against the Chicago Sky, Bonner put up seven points for the team, with three boards and a pair of helpers.

Caitlin Clark And Indiana Fever To Meet Atlanta Dream For Next Matchup

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will be gearing up for their second game of the season against the Atlanta Dream which will kick off in a few hours. The Fever will try to build on their win against the Chicago Sky in their season opener, while trying to redeem themselves after losing to the Washington Mystics in their opening game.

The Indiana Fever have already played a game against the Atlanta Dream in their second preseason game. In that matchup, the Fever won with a final score of 81-76. Atlanta managed to dominate in two quarters, but their offense was definitely no match for the Fever who eventually posted an impressive win. The two teams will be playing two games back-to-back in a series.
