After joining the Unrivaled league, Cameron Brink provided an update on her recovery from a serious knee injury that had sidelined her since last June. While she expressed optimism about her healing process, the WNBA star acknowledged that she wasn’t able to participate fully in practices, highlighting the challenges of her ongoing rehabilitation.

Brink faced significant challenges after suffering a torn ACL in her left knee during a WNBA game in June. This injury not only ended her rookie season but also prevented her from competing in the 3×3 basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics. After undergoing successful surgery in July, Brink began her long recovery journey, which included a commitment to support her teammates in the newly formed Unrivaled league.

Despite her injury , Brink remained optimistic and participated in the Unrivaled practices as a supportive teammate. She expressed gratitude for being included in the league, co-founded by renowned players Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Although she was unable to participate in on-court activities during the league’s initial practices, she utilized the opportunity to train and learn from some of the best players in women’s basketball.

Brink’s absence during the inaugural season of Unrivaled left a noticeable gap in her team, the Lunar Owls. Known for her strong defensive skills and ability to score, her presence would have enhanced the team’s offensive depth. Nonetheless, her determination to recover and improve her game remained steadfast. She emphasized her intent to take advantage of her time around elite players to sharpen her skills.

Along with her upcoming wedding, Brink also gave an update on her injury after joining Unrivaled. This can be seen in an article written by Michael Voepel for ESPN.

“It’s going to challenge me to play a little bit differently,” Griner said. “I’ve been trying to evolve my game anyway, not just playing on the low post always. Stretching out, playing on the wing a little bit. I’m looking forward to showcasing that and being challenged as well. And then I’ll be in the best shape ever coming back [to Phoenix].”

As she approached the five-month mark of her recovery, Brink felt positive about her progress. She indicated that while she was not yet able to return to full practice, she was gradually increasing her activity level. Her commitment to recovery highlighted her resilience and dedication to returning stronger for the upcoming WNBA season.
