Indiana Fever Announce Big News Before WNBA Season

The Indiana Fever are entering the 2026 season with momentum and expectation after a breakthrough 2025 campaign that reestablished the franchise as a contender. Built around Caitlin Clark and a young core, Indiana showed it could compete with the league’s elite while playing one of the most dynamic offensive styles in the WNBA.

The previous campaign was not without constant adversity. Clark was limited to just 13 games due to multiple injuries, including a left quad strain and a right groin injury that ultimately ended her season. The Fever were also without key contributors like Sophie Cunningham for extended stretches, and the team had to play with a depleted backcourt for much of the year.

Even with those setbacks, Indiana found a way to sustain its push. The Fever advanced to the WNBA semifinals, emerging as one of the final teams standing before being eliminated by the eventual champions Las Vegas Aces. It marked a significant step forward for a group that had only recently returned to playoff relevance the year before.

With the roster expected to return largely intact and key players like Clark entering the season healthy, optimism around the team has only grown. Fans are anticipating another leap in 2026, with the Fever viewed as a legitimate contender heading into the new campaign.

Ahead of the season, Indiana added to the intrigue with a notable preseason announcement.

The Fever confirmed they will host the Nigerian Women’s National Team at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday, May 2, adding an international exhibition to their preseason slate. The matchup expands what was already a strong lead-up to the season and gives Indiana another opportunity to evaluate its roster in a competitive setting.

The preseason schedule already includes matchups against the Dallas Wings, featuring reigning Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers, as well as a meeting with the New York Liberty. Those games are expected to provide early tests for a team with championship ambitions.

Indiana will then open its regular season at home against the Wings on May 9.
