Aliyah Boston had the opportunity to send Saturday's game to overtime. The Indiana Fever star, however, came up short with her last-second jumper, which led to the Los Angeles Sparks securing an 89-87 win at Gainbrdige Fieldhouse.
Head coach Stephanie White spoke to reporters after the game, and she refused to point fingers after the loss. The veteran shot-caller thought that Boston "had a really good look at the end." According to White, it was simply a matter of some shots not falling your way.
What the Fever coach emphasized, though, was the Fever's execution in the game's final moments. White accepted the blame on behalf of her team, saying that it's their responsibility to ensure they do better in these situations.
"We're looking more about execution," White said in her postgame interview. "I didn't feel like our execution was all that good at the end. I felt like in our reset timeout, it wasn't very good either.
"That's on us — continuing to make sure that we are going over that as often as possible when we have our practice time and making sure that we're sharp in those areas."
The silver lining for the Fever is that they get a few days off before they return to action in their next game. This comes in the form of another home matchup against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.
Based on her comments above, it appears that White will give a lot of attention to her team's execution — especially in late-game situations — in their upcoming practice sessions.
