Caitlin Clark’s second WNBA season did not go as planned. The Indiana Fever guard was limited to just 13 games before suffering a season-ending groin injury on July 15. In those appearances, she averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and a team-high 8.8 assists per game.

At just 23 years old, Clark was expected to build on her standout Rookie of the Year campaign, but her progress was interrupted by multiple injury setbacks. Even so, she has remained one of the WNBA’s most talked about stars and continues to be a steady presence for her team, encouraging teammates from the sideline and voicing her support online.

Although Clark has been unable to suit up for months, her growing list of honors was extended last week when she was inducted into her high school hall of fame. Before reaching the WNBA, Clark starred at Iowa, where she became one of the most celebrated players in college basketball history. She finished her career as the NCAA Division 1’s all-time leading scorer, led the nation in assists, and earned multiple All-American selections. Clark also guided the Hawkeyes to deep tournament runs, including back-to-back NCAA Championship games, further establishing herself as one of the most recognizable names in the sport.

The recognition drew responses from the WNBA world, including Fever General Manager Amber Coxx, who offered public congratulations.

“Another accolade for CC to add to the trophy case! Nothing like being recognized by your hometown and the people who helped shape who you are. Awesome and well-deserved. Congrats, CC! We are so proud of you!” Coxx wrote on X.

Coxx’s statement comes amid Indiana’s stunning road victory over the No. 3 Atlanta Dream in the playoffs on Thursday, a result that proved just how resilient the team has been despite injuries to Clark and other key players The Fever leaned on Kelsey Mitchell (24 points), Odyssey Sims (16 points), Aliyah Boston (14 points), Natasha Howard (12 points), and Lexie Hull (10 points) to secure the win and keep their championship hopes alive.

Clark’s recovery from her groin injury remains ongoing, with no new updates since she was officially ruled out for the rest of the season. Still, her involvement has not wavered. She has been on the bench during the playoffs, providing support.

As the Fever prepare for their semifinal clash with the Las Vegas Aces, they will once again have to adapt without their star guard, relying on their veterans and overall team chemistry to compete. Game 1 against the Aces is set for Sunday in Las Vegas.
