The Indiana Fever fell short against the Minnesota Lynx on Friday night, losing 95-90 to fall to 19-17 on the season, while the Lynx continued their dominance and improved to 29-7.
Despite that, the Fever will once again take on the Lynx on Sunday, but with an added reinforcement this time as they agreed to a seven-day hardship contract with nine-year WNBA veteran Aerial Powers on Saturday morning.
This move comes in the wake of Sophie Cunningham suffering a season-ending injury, which paved the way for the Fever to receive another outlet to sign a hardship contract.
"We have signed Aerial Powers to a 7-day hardship contract," Fever announced. "Welcome to Indy, Aerial."

The Fever were not able to make this move before the game, as Cunningham had to miss at least one game before they would be eligible to add another player to the roster.
Nonetheless, it didn’t take long for Indiana to make the move, potentially finding Cunningham's replacement for the rest of the season—or at least for the next handful of games until Caitlin Clark can potentially return to the court.
Powers started her career with the Dallas Wings back in 2016 after being drafted No. 5 overall. Just a few years later, in 2019, she was part of the Washington Mystics team that captured a WNBA Championship, contributing 7.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Since then, the former Michigan State star has spent three seasons with the Lynx, one season with the Atlanta Dream, and most recently played for the Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA's newest expansion team.
Over the course of her career, she’s remained a very formidable player, giving hope that she can provide consistent production for the Fever. She’s averaging 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists across her nine years in the league and will wear No. 23 for Indiana, likely making her debut on Sunday.
