Indiana Fever make historic announcement amid WNBA season
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) celebrates in the second half against the Dallas Wings.

The Indiana Fever secured their first win of the campaign on Wednesday. They defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 87-78 on the road after they dropped their season opener to the Dallas Wings. Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell led the charge to get the team on track.

The backcourt duo combined for 47 points and achieved a +19 on the night. Clark recorded 24 points, four rebounds and nine assists, while Mitchell contributed 23 points built on three triples. Indiana’s perimeter defense impressed, limiting Los Angeles to 2-for-15 shooting from beyond the arc.

Sophie Cunningham bounced back from her disappointing performance on Saturday. The veteran guard scored 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Monique Billings debuted for the Fever and just missed a double-double by one point and two rebounds.

Indiana Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell makes franchise history

Mitchell has been playing at a high level this year. She registered a game-high 30 points versus Dallas on 50% shooting, and followed it up with a strong performance on Wednesday.

The Fever announced that the three-time All-Star set the team mark with her 53 points through two games, en route to rewriting the Fever’s history books.

“no slowing down for Kelsey Mitchell in year 9 she has set a new record for the most points through the first two games in franchise history,” the team posted on X.

Mitchell is in her ninth WNBA season but shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. She continues to be a thorn in opponents’ sides with her elite scoring and ability to convert timely baskets. The 30-year-old has also proven that she can thrive alongside Clark. They share point guard duties, and both can play off the ball or set up teammates for easy baskets.

Clark has recovered from the injuries she sustained in 2025, and her health will be key to the team’s success. If she and Mitchell continue to fill stat sheets, the sky’s the limit for the Indiana team aiming for a championship this year.
