The team announced Monday that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will miss at least two weeks after being diagnosed with a left quadriceps strain. She will be re-evaluated at the end of that period, and further updates will be provided as her recovery progresses.

Clark suffered the injury over the weekend, though the team did not specify precisely when it occurred. She played almost 38 minutes in Saturday’s 90–88 loss to the New York Liberty, finishing with 18 points, 10 assists, and 10 turnovers.

The injury affects the same leg that Clark managed during training camp. She missed Indiana’s preseason opener with soreness in her left quad. She returned to action shortly after and started all four regular-season games before Monday’s announcement.

Caitlin Clark’s Early Impact on the Indiana Fever

Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has been one of the league’s most dynamic rookies. She is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists while shooting 40.3 percent from the field.

She leads the Fever in scoring and assists and has become the focal point of their offensive system. In transition and the halfcourt, her shooting range, passing vision, and tempo control have helped modernize Indiana’s offense and elevate the play of those around her.

Her most recent performance came Saturday in a narrow loss to New York, where she helped ignite a third-quarter rally. Clark hit back-to-back threes — including a four-point play and a 34-foot buzzer-beater — as Indiana briefly took a 12-point lead. The Liberty stormed back late, closing the game on a 14–2 run.

“We are two possessions from being 4–0,” Clark said postgame. “There were so many little areas of this game we could have improved. It definitely stings, but this is what’s going to make us better at the end of the year.”

What the Indiana Fever Lose — and What Comes Next

Caitlin Clark Makes Massive WNBA History During Fever Loss Against Liberty 3 Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) reacts to the officiating Saturday, May 24, 2025, during a game between the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The New York Liberty defeated the Indiana Fever, 90-88.

Without Clark, Indiana will be forced to adjust its rotation. Her absence removes the team’s leading scorer, playmaker, and primary decision-maker in late-game situations. Kelsey Mitchell immediately becomes supremely important in the backcourt.

Additionally, more scoring will be needed from Aliyah Boston down low, along with veteran wings DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard.

The timing adds further complications as the fever enters a stretch of key games, including matchups against the Washington Mystics (May 28 and June 3), Connecticut Sun (May 30), and Chicago Sky (June 7) before facing the Atlanta Dream (June 10).

The Fever is 2–2 and has yet to sustain a rhythm.

Quadriceps strains affect the muscles at the front of the thigh and can hinder explosiveness, lateral movement, and stamina — all essential traits for a guard. Recovery timelines vary depending on the severity, but a minimum two-week absence suggests a mild to moderate strain.

The Fever has not shared the grade of the injury or details on Clark’s rehab plan, but will re-evaluate her following the initial rest window. There is no set date for her return.

Clark’s first month in the WNBA has drawn national attention, helping the league reach record-setting viewership numbers and sellouts in multiple markets. She has quickly become the face of the Fever’s rebuild and a central figure in the broader growth of women’s basketball.

Indiana visits the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
