The Indiana Fever seek to rebound after a tough loss to the Golden State Valkyries, standing at 21-19 as they hold steady in the 7th seed and one of the final WNBA playoff spots. Their journey this season has been marked by significant setback, one that continues to threaten their playoff hopes in the final weeks of the regular season.
Season-ending injuries to point guards Sophie Cunningham (MCL tear), Sydney Colson (ACL tear), and Aari McDonald (fractured foot) have tested the team multiple times, while super star guard Caitlin Clark remains sidelined due to a groin injury sustained in mid-July. Clark has played only 13 games this season and has missed Indiana's last 18 outings. However, while she continues to recover, the team has managed to remain in contention.
As the Fever await a potential return for Clark, they have remained resilient as a group and the latest ESPN rankings attests to this. On Tuesday, the network released its weekly power rankings with Indiana moving up two spots from the previous week to sit at seventh.
This new ranking comes amid the latest Clark update that indicated she continues to make strides in recovery. According to IndyStar’s Chloe Peterson, she was seen running full-court 5-on-0 drills with backup players during shootaround on Tuesday. A short clip captured her drifting into the corner and sinking a three-pointer, a positive sign that her reintegration to the starting roster might come sooner.

This is not the first time recently Clark has done non-contact drills in practice, as she has been slowly ramping up her on-court activity.
Indiana’s current position in the playoff race is impressive given their depleted roster. Even without Clark or their veteran guards, the Fever secured two pivotal wins last week against playoff-bound teams—the Seattle Storm and the Los Angeles Sparks—showing depth, grit, and determination remain in abundance.
Although absent for much of the 2025 campaign, Clark remains the face of the Fever franchise. And with just four games left in the regular season—against the Phoenix Mercury, Chicago Sky, Dallas Wings, and Minnesota Lynx—her return could mean everything.
A strong finish, powered by her presence, could elevate Indiana to a higher seed and offer meaningful playoff positioning heading into the postseason. In limited time this season, Clark has averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games, and remains the team’s top playmaker this season. With her on the floor, Indiana has an 8-5 record, while holding a 13-14 record without the two-time All-Star.
