  • Sophie Cunningham made a strong impact with the Indiana Fever before a season-ending knee injury.
  • She became famous after an ejection defending Caitlin Clark and launched a podcast.
  • Cunningham reveals her dating preference ahead of WNBA free agency.

Sophie Cunningham had a memorable first season with the Indiana Fever in 2025. After signing with the team as a free agent on a one-year, $100,000 deal, the 6-foot-1 guard had a significant impact on the squad throughout the campaign. Apart from averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 triples per game, Cunningham also established herself as one of the vocal leaders on the team.

Unfortunately for Cunningham, her season came to an end due to a torn MCL in her right knee in August. She had to undergo surgery to address the issue, which forced her to miss the remainder of the campaign.

One of the reasons the Fever signed the 29-year-old was for her to play the role of an enforcer. Cunningham did just that for Indiana, even getting herself ejected from a game after supposedly retaliating on behalf of teammate Caitlin Clark.

Cunningham saw her fame skyrocket after her ejection. She became a household name among the Indiana faithful overnight. Not long after, the Missouri Tigers icon started her own podcast with reality TV star and good friend West Wilson.

In Thursday’s episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast, Cunningham answered several questions from her fans. One of them was about her dating preferences. In particular, one listener asked the hosts for their opinion on dating younger or older partners and whether they had a rule about an age limit.

Wilson responded first, saying he wouldn't want to date anyone more than five years younger than him. Cunningham agreed, saying, "I feel like the maturity level is still just different."

The Fever star then revealed her personal dating rule regarding a potential age gap.

"I'm right there with you. I think only older," Cunningham said. "I've only dated older."

While Cunningham did not reveal how much older she would prefer her partner to be, the WNBA veteran stated she is not inclined to date anyone younger than her.

As for her basketball career, this offseason is going to be a very interesting one for Cunningham. Apart from rehabbing her surgically repaired knee, she will also need to handle contract negotiations now that her single-season deal with the Fever has come to an end.

Cunningham will enter free agency once the window officially opens on Feb. 1.
