The Las Vegas Aces clashed with the Indiana Fever in game 4 on Sunday as Indiana forces a game 5 back to Las Vegas.
Fast Paced First Half
Both teams came out in the opening quarter playing a fast-paced game. Each team matched shot for shot. Lexi Hull was 8 for 17 at the 1:54 after connecting with a massive three ball. Kelsey Mitchell followed up with a three ball of her own. Jewell Loyd joined the three party from the corner earning her first point of the game. To close out the first quarter, Indiana held on to a
Jackie Young completed a three-point play to give the Aces a two-point lead, but Shey Peddy came back with the steal and score to tie the game 32-32 with 5:09 remaining in the first half.
“Just doing my job, that’s all I’m gonna do,” A’ja Wilson said before the second quarter.
Indiana controlled the momentum off of a jump ball that led to an Odyssey Sims three to give Indiana a 46-38 lead, their largest of the game.
Crash & Burn
The Aces came out immediately on fire. Kierstan Bell stepped in a three pointer that was followed by NaLyssa Smith ripping straight into the lane to give the Aces a bit of a boost. In the last two minutes of the third quarter, A’ja Wilson went on a scoring tear, scoring 9 of the Aces point before the one-minute mark. The third quarter concluded with Indiana capitalizing off of the Aces turnover.
Aces Run Out of Gas
The Aces tried to keep up in the fourth quarter, going shot-for-shot but could not overcome the momentum that Indiana continuously had to close out the game.
Aces coach Becky Hammon said concerning what happened in the game overall, “We didn’t get a lot of stops. It was us on the defensive end.”
Hammon also mentioned the physicality of play down low saying, “There was a lot of grabbing and holding down there that only got called one way.”
The Aces go down 90-83. They will head back home in a must win game 5.
