'It’s So Embarrasing Covering The League': Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Rivalry Obsession Gets WNBA Analyst Irked

The Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese rivalry has become one of the biggest storylines in the WNBA. Ever since their NCAA battles turned pro, every matchup between the two has added fuel to the fire. But following a heated moment during their season opener, the narrative has once again spilled beyond basketball—and not everyone is thrilled.

WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita voiced her frustration about how the on-court scuffle between Clark and Reese is dominating headlines for all the wrong reasons.

“It’s so embarrassing covering the league if this is gonna be the whole season. I can’t do it again, you guys,” DeMita said Tuesday on her ‘Courtside Club’ podcast. “Like, I’m not interested. I’m just this close to not being interested in the basketball anymore, because we can’t escape this stuff that comes up.”

She pointed to how the league intentionally scheduled five games between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky this season to spotlight the rivalry. But after just one game, it’s turned chaotic.

“It was one game, and the WNBA wanted to capitalize on the Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark rivalry by putting these two teams up against one another five times during this season,” DeMita said. “We have four more games of this, and this was game one—on a basketball play.”

DeMita also expressed concern about the wave of fan responses and social media petitions, calling it an overreaction.

“Now, fans are petitioning for the All-Star Game not to be held in Indiana because it’s clearly not safe. There is a petition for Dave Portnoy to never be able to attend WNBA games. There is a petition for Caitlin Clark to be arrested,” she said.

“I’m not joking when I say this — arrested. This is something that has also gone viral. There’s a petition that has gone viral on social media for Caitlin Clark to be arrested because she ‘stat-padded’… and that’s why Dave Portnoy hit his parlay and won over $300,000.”

While both Clark and Reese seem to have moved on, the fan bases clearly haven’t.

WNBA opened investigation into ‘hateful’ comments directed at Angel Reese following brief altercation with Caitlin Clark

Following the Fever vs. Sky season opener, where Caitlin Clark committed a flagrant foul on Angel Reese, the WNBA announced it is investigating allegations that Reese received racist remarks from fans during the game.

“The WNBA strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms — they have no place in our league or in society. We are aware of the allegations and are looking into the matter,” WNBA Communications posted on X.
