Comedian and TV host Jimmy Fallon had some things to say about Caitlin Clark and the incidents she starred in this week. The Indiana Fever's young star was involved in a controversial moment with the Connecticut Sun's Marina Mabrey and Jacy Sheldon during Tuesday's 88-71 win.
Before leading the Fever to their sixth win of the season with 20 points, six assists and two steals, Clark was poked in the eye by Sheldon. The guard then shoved her fellow sophomore, which didn't sit well with Mabrey, who pushed Clark to the ground in response.
The sequence ended with Clark, Mabrey and Tina Charles receiving technical fouls while Sheldon was given a flagrant 1. The Fever cruised to an easy win to improve to 6-5, while the Sun dropped to 2-9 after Mabrey only scored six points (2-of-9 from the floor) and Sheldon two points (1-of-4 from the field).
During Thursday's edition of "The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon," the host discussed Donald Trump's potential actions on the Iran-Israel tension. He made a joke about Trump taking two weeks to make a decision, before mixing it up with the Clark-Sun incident.
"When the press first asked Trump how he’ll stop the fighting, he thought they meant the WNBA,” Fallon said, in reference to Tuesday's altercation, before sending a clear message about the treatment some players have given Clark.
“What is going on (in the WNBA)? Protect Caitlin Clark at all costs, please. Enough of this. Please!”
Clark remains a hot topic around the WNBA, as controversies overshadow her on-court performances at times.
The Fever lost their next game by an identical score to the Golden State Valkyries, with Clark having a poor performance (11 points on 3-of-14 from the floor and 0-for-7 from deep) in the first-ever duel between these two franchises.
The former No. 1 overall pick is set to face off against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
