In a Group A matchup at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile, Brazil extended its unbeaten run with a 73-46 victory over the Dominican Republic.

Brazil exploded for 31 first‑quarter points to seize control early, and though the Dominican Republic fought back, outscoring Brazil 18-20 in the third quarter, Brazil never relinquished their advantage.

With the game out of reach early, Kamilla Cardoso only saw 12:25 minutes, in which she posted six points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Shortly after the final buzzer, the Dominican Republic's Giocelis Reynoso turned to Instagram to congratulate Cardoso, posting on her story: "Such a talented and great player @kamilla_cardoso. Like I said... today was fun ."

Cardoso promptly reshared the tribute, adding, "Thanks, I’m trynna be like you!! ."

For Cardoso, representing Brazil in her third AmeriCup, the performance against the Dominican Republic was another chapter in an increasingly decorated international resume.

A gold medalist and tournament MVP at the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup, and a key contributor to Brazil’s 2022 FIBA South America Championship title, Cardoso has established herself as a dominant interior presence for her country.

On Tuesday, she became the second-highest shot blocker in the competition since 2003.

Domestically, Cardoso’s profile has soared since joining the Chicago Sky as the third overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, averaging 12.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.8 blocks through the first half of the 2025 WNBA season.

Her field‑goal percentage sits at an efficient 56.1%, and she’s already notched multiple double‑figure scoring games, including a career‑high 27‑point effort on June 24 against the Los Angeles Sparks

Looking ahead, Brazil will face El Salvador on Wednesday, hoping to continue its undefeated run into the knockout stages, which begin on Friday up until the Final on Sunday.

Afterwards, Cardoso will return to a Sky team aiming to build off its 5-11 record into the second half of the season.
