Kate Martin Receives Unexpected Caitlin Clark Moment During WNBA Offseason

Kate Martin’s 2025 WNBA campaign with the Golden State Valkyries was one to remember. She second-year guard helped anchor the team’s rotation and also improved in her second year as a pro. After being selected in the 2024 expansion draft from the Las Vegas Aces, Martin averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists over 42 games while helping Golden State clinch a playoff berth in their inaugural season.

For the second straight year, she was also announced as one of the players set to participate in Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 offseason league that features several WNBA stars looking to stay sharp between seasons.

With the offseason now fully underway, Martin shared a lighthearted moment on TikTok after randomly pulling a Caitlin Clark trading card. The coincidence immediately drew responses online given Martin’s close relationship with Clark, her former Iowa Hawkeyes teammate.

The pair spent four years together in Iowa City from 2020 to 2024, helping lead the program to back-to-back NCAA championship game appearances and setting multiple school records along the way.

At Iowa, Clark emerged as one of the most dominant scorers in college basketball history, while Martin earned praise as the team’s vocal leader and emotional anchor. Their chemistry became one of the defining traits of the Hawkeyes’ success. Martin later joined the professional ranks with the Aces before moving to Golden State, while Clark was selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Despite now playing in different cities, both players have maintained a strong friendship and mutual admiration. Their shared success continues to resonate across women’s basketball, with fans still celebrating the Iowa connection that helped shape two of the WNBA’s most promising young stars.
