Kelsey Mitchell did not have her best game on Sunday as the Indiana Fever escaped with a narrow 78-74 win over the Seattle Storm in a tightly contested affair.
The three-time All-Star struggled with her shot in the game, making just 3 out of her 16 attempts from the field in 30 minutes of action. Mitchell missed all eight of her three-pointers as well, but she was able to register nine points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals.
It was an entirely different story for Aliyah Boston, though. The 6-foot-5 forward-center turned in another strong performance for Indiana with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, to go along with 12 rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block.
This was Boston’s sixth straight double-double, which allowed her to set a new Fever franchise record for the most consecutive double-doubles. Boston surpassed the previous mark set by Caitlin Clark, who sat out her seventh straight contest due to a lingering groin injury.
Earlier in the game, Boston snatched her 924th career rebound, which saw her climb to fourth on the Fever’s all-time rebounding list.
Mitchell took to Instagram on Monday to congratulate Boston for her new double-double record. The veteran guard shared the announcement post from the Fever on her own Instagram stories, along with a revelation about her nickname for Boston.
“the BIG baby…” Mitchell wrote.

Mitchell, who made some big shots for the Fever down the stretch against Seattle despite her off night, did not add any context to her three-word description of her Indiana teammate. However, it would probably be safe to say that it has something to do with Boston’s size as well as the way she carries herself on and off the court.
Clark currently does not have a timetable for her return from injury, and she isn’t expected to take the court in the Fever’s next game. This will be on Tuesday as Indiana plays in the third of their current four-game road trip. They head to California to battle the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena.
In the absence of their cornerstone superstar, Boston and Mitchell will need to step it up again on Tuesday night. After all, these two are two of the most important players on the squad, sans Clark.
