On Friday night, Kelsey Plum made her big debut as a new member of the Los Angeles Sparks after being traded by the Las Vegas Aces in a blockbuster trade in the offseason.

Plum debuted in a big way scoring 37 points, going 11-for-19 from the floor with two rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

In the win, Plum became the first WNBA player to score at least 35 points and five steals in a game. She also set a Sparks record and league record for the most points scored in a season opener.

Following the game, Plum spoke being aggressive and when to pull back, giving a shutout to former Aces teammate, A’ja Wilson.

“I have spent a lot of time learning, particularly from A’ja,” Plum said. “Watching her pick her spots and just being intentional about when to be aggressive, when not to be aggressive. I don’t think I did a tremendous job balancing, but I’ll continue to get better.”

The two parted ways in the offseason. Wilson processed Plum leaving like she would anyone else.

In an interview with KTNV, Wilson said, “I processed it just like anyone else.”

Wilson continued, “It is what it is. It’s a business. People wanna work on their brand, new journeys, new stories.”
