Kelsey Plum’s future with the Aces still uncertain

According to Athlon Sports, Kelsey Plum’s days as a Las Vegas Ace are numbered.

That, of course, is the case only if the speculations are true.

WNBA reporter Kevin Pelton reported earlier in the week that Plum could be traded to the Golden State Valkyries amid rumors of her wanting a fresh start after a not-so-hot season stat-wise.

The Valkyries have the No. 5 pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft. Pelton believed the new team would assemble a trade package to get Plum.

Although the Aces have given Plum the ‘core’ designation, it doesn’t mean she cannot get traded to another organization.

Another prediction has surfaced.

According to reporter Sabreena Merchant of The Athletic, she predicts that Plum doesn’t end up with the Valkyries. Instead, she moves on to the Seattle Storm.

Merchant also sees the possibility of an All-Star swap, considering Storm star Jewel Loyd requested a trade from the Storm.

The trade to a place like Seattle could work. She did make a name for herself at the University of Washington for four years.

“Plum is beloved in the Pacific Northwest, and the Storm need a shooting guard now that Loyd asked out. Loyd has a natural connection to the Aces and her three Olympic teammates, A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young — all of whom are represented by Klutch Sports,” Merchant said.

“Las Vegas and Seattle are trying to be competitive in the short term, so it doesn’t make much sense to trade their All-Star/Olympian guards for draft assets or younger players,” Merchant added.

Plum has been a part of the Aces back-to-back championship teams, and her departure would be a big blow for the organization.

It remains to be seen what the Aces plan is this offseason regarding Kelsey Plum’s future with the team.
