Georgia Amoore’s rise to the WNBA has been defined by a rare combination of consistency, creativity, and leadership qualities that made her one of the most respected guards in college basketball. On Monday night, her journey took its next step as the Washington Mystics selected the Australian point guard with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Amoore joins Notre Dame’s Sonia Citron (No. 3) and USC’s Kiki Iriafen (No. 4) as Washington’s trio of top-6 selections, signaling a strategic investment in backcourt and frontcourt depth as the franchise looks to reshape its roster.
Amoore spent the first four years of her collegiate career at Virginia Tech, where she steadily developed into a premier playmaker. Her junior season in 2022–23 was a turning point: she recorded the program’s first-ever triple-double and led the Hokies to both an ACC Tournament championship and their first NCAA Final Four appearance. Her 24 made three-pointers in that tournament set a new record at the time.
In 2024, she transferred to Kentucky alongside head coach Kenny Brooks, where she delivered a career-best season. Averaging 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game on 42.3% shooting, Amoore earned First-Team All-SEC honors while serving as a steady leader for the Wildcats team in transition.
Over her collegiate career, she accumulated more than 2,300 points and 800 assists, a milestone achieved only by two other players in Division I history: Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu.

The Mystics, holding three top-6 picks for the first time in franchise history, made back-to-back selections before adding Amoore. Her selection offers both immediate depth and long-term promise at the point guard position. While her 5-foot-6 frame presents a challenge at the next level, her vision, decision-making, and long-range shooting make her a compelling addition.
Whether she starts or plays a key role off the bench, Amoore’s adaptability could complement Citron’s versatility in the backcourt, giving the Mystics a new dimension on both ends of the floor.

Now officially part of the WNBA, Amoore enters the next chapter of her career with the tools to make an impact and a résumé that reflects years of earned respect.
