Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon made a guest appearance on NBA Today. The one thing that is apparent with Hammon is how commanding of a presence she has. Her experience as a former WNBA All Star, former NBA assistant coach and championship winning head coach in the WNBA. It’s safe to say that Hammon is one of the most respected basketball minds in the world.
Joining Malika Andrews and Chiney Ogwumike on NBA Today, she was able to touch on two of the hottest topics in the NBA. The number one topic in the NBA is Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat’s rift. The Heat suspended Butler 7 games for conduct detrimental to the team. Butler has publicly said that he wants out of Miami and the Heat are currently looking for trade partners to ship him out of town. Hammon chimed in on Jimmy Butler’s possible split with the Heat.
“When the player wants out and the player’s giving you a list of teams, it’s just time to say goodbye, Hammon said.” I wish Jimmy would just say, “Hey, I want out.’ That’s okay, ‘Thank you! “Thank you!’
Hammon is no stranger to a superstars not wanting to stay in town anymore, she was coaching on the San Antonio Spurs staff when Kawhi Leonard demanded a trade.
“As things get dragged out, it tends to get a little bit ugly. There was a point where I was discussing with some other coaches that I didn’t think Kawhi wanted to be in San Antonio anymore. I said, He’s the girl in the car that is playing nice until she can get out of the car. She’s done with the date.

Hammon also chimed in with Phoenix Suns disgruntled star Bradley Beal as well. Beal was relegated to the bench and he was not happy at all with the decision but being a team player he agreed to the role. He reiterated that point after the Suns win over the 76ers on Monday scoring 25 points off the bench.
“I’m a starter in the league, “Beal said in the postgame presser following the win over the Sixers. “I firmly believe that. No disrespect to anybody, but I’m a starter.”
Hammon thinks that Beal going to the bench could potentially save the Suns season. Hammons and the NBA Today crew were going over numbers on how ineffective the Suns are when their big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal are all on the court today.
“Kudos to him for moving to the bench and doing whatever it takes for his team to win and being a pro.” Then having to deal with trade questions afterwards, come on man.”
"I'm gonna go to my favorite bench player in Manu Ginobili."

Hammon’s appearance to NBA Today was very refreshing to see. Watching her talk about todays current WNBA stars makes you wonder if she would put her hat in the a NBA Head Coaching job. She has the experience and is a proven winner so credentials isn’t a problem. It’ll come down to the fact if she’s ready to take on another challenge which she’s made a whole career out of doing.
