Las Vegas Aces win WNBA title for first time in franchise history

Thanks to their 79-71 win in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals on Sunday evening, the Las Vegas Aces won their first championship in franchise history, and their first-ever major professional sports title for the city.

The Aces won the series 3-1 over the Connecticut Sun and capped off a sensational year for the franchise and first-year coach Becky Hammon.

After finishing the regular season with the league's best record, the Aces went 8-2 in the playoffs by rolling through Phoenix (2-0), Seattle (3-1) and Connecticut (3-1).

Hammon is also the first rookie coach to win the WNBA title. Prior to this season, she had never been a head coach at any level. She spent several years working as an assistant coach with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs.

Chelsea Gray led the Aces on Sunday with a game-high 20 points, while Riquna Williams had 17 points coming off the bench in 22 minutes.

Gray was also named WNBA Finals MVP after averaging 18.2 points in the four games while also adding 24 assists, 12 rebounds, a block, and four steals.
