Lexie Hull Makes Feelings Clear on Former Indiana Fever Star’s Unexpected Exit

The Indiana Fever had a whirlwind season.

They finished 24-20, won the WNBA Commissioner's Cup and fell one game short of the WNBA Finals.

Through it all, they had five players suffer season-ending injuries: Caitlin Clark, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, Sophie Cunningham and Chloe Bibby.

But that's not all. The Fever even had a player request to leave the team.

Two-time WNBA champion DeWanna Bonner signed with the Fever as a free agent during the offseason. After beginning the year as a starter and later transitioning to a bench role, she missed five games due to personal reasons.

Reports revealed she wasn't happy with her role on the team, and then the Fever waived her.

Bonner’s decision left the team confused, and after Lexie Hull spoke with Emily Tannenbaum of Glamour magazine, it’s clear that Hull still is.

"I was super, super, super excited because finally there’s a [player in my position] that I can look up to that has won in the league and has all these accomplishments and knows what it takes, and I can learn something from her," Hull said of Bonner joining the team in the offseason. "And then she randomly leaves, and we’re all just kind of like, 'What happened?' We were never given an explanation."

Bonner then signed with the Phoenix Mercury for the remainder of the season.

Bonner went on to play in 24 regular-season games for the Mercury but start in just one. She averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1 assist per game. She added 9.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1 assists in 11 postseason games as Phoenix advanced to the WNBA Finals, where they were swept by the Las Vegas Aces.

Bonner recently finished her 16th season in the WNBA. She's a six-time All-Star and two-time All-WNBA selection.
