Lisa Leslie Reacts to Historic WNBA News

There is no doubt that Lisa Leslie is one of the greatest players to ever grace the WNBA. The 53-year-old pretty much did it all during her 13-year reign, which, among other things, includes two WNBA titles. Leslie was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.

Among her myriad of accomplishments were three Most Valuable Player titles, which is a record that she shares with three other players. That was the case until Sunday, before the WNBA announced a historic bit of news involving Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson.

After an incredible campaign that saw her average 23.4 points on 50.5% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals, 2.3 blocks and 2.2 turnovers per game, Wilson was named the 2025 WNBA MVP. This was the 29-year-old’s fourth time winning the prestigious award, making her the only player in history to take home the trophy four times.

Leslie, who is tied with Lauren Jackson and Sheryl Swoopes with three MVP titles, took to social media to share her reaction to Wilson’s historic feat.

“I love this! Sending the biggest congratulations to @_ajawilson22 It’s your time! Shine ” Leslie posted on X.

Wilson has now broken her tie with Leslie, Swoopes and Jackson, as she stands alone as the only four-time WNBA MVP. It’s also Wilson who’s the only active player out of the quartet, which means that her record is not going to be broken anytime soon.

Wilson’s closest challenger is Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty, who has two MVP titles to her name. It was also Stewart who broke Wilson’s streak by bagging the title in 2023. Wilson would have won three straight MVP titles had it not been for Stewart.

The bad news for Wilson and the Aces, however, is that they suffered an upset loss to an injury-marred Indiana Fever side on Sunday in Game 1 of their semifinal series. The Aces, who hold home-court advantage, will need to fight their way back in this series if they want to return to the WNBA Finals and potentially compete for another title after winning back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023.
