Major Caitlin Clark Announcement on Sunday Gets Pacers Reaction

It's not a major surprise, of course, to find that a distinction that relies on fan popularity around the WNBA has landed in the lap of Caitlin Clark. She'd be the first, of course, to shrug it off, and would likely point out that the 2025 Indiana Fever season has thus far been mostly frustrating because of injuries and a disappointing 8-8 record.

But given the way she has had an impact on the league in her first two seasons, it is no surprise to find that Clark was named the Eastern Conference All-Star captain on Sunday. The distinction was given out based on fan voting and, in the West, MVP favorite and reigning defensive player of the year Napheesa Collier earned a captain's spot.

Per the WNBA, "Clark and Collier earned the role of captains by virtue of being the two All-Star starters who received the most fan votes. Clark received 1,293,526 votes from fans and Collier received 1,176,020."

In the wake of the fan voting announcement, Clark got a nod from the Indiana Pacers, the team with which her Fever shares Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark was a vocal and visible supporter of the Pacers during their run to the NBA Finals this spring.

Wrote the Pacers on their social media page: "Let’s go CC."

Clark is averaging 18.2 points and a career-high 8.9 assists per game this season, but has only appeared in nine of the team's 16 games. She missed five games with a left quad injury and has missed the past two games with a groin injury.

The Fever will host this year's WNBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis, with the game to be played on Saturday, July 19.
