Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey’s history with the Indiana Fever is well documented. The 28-year-old is not exactly the most-loved player among Fever fans, especially after her incident involving Caitlin Clark during their June 17 game.
The Indiana faithful were not at all pleased that Mabrey was not ejected after she shoved Clark to the ground during a heated incident in the said game. The Sun guard has since been marked as an enemy by more than a few Fever fans.
Mabrey, however, had quite an unexpected reaction to Sophie Cunningham’s injury during Sunday’s rematch between the Fever and the Sun. Cunningham was screaming in pain while grabbing her leg after a collision with a Connecticut player. The Fever star hit the deck in front of the Sun bench, and Mabrey was one of the first to approach Cunningham immediately after the incident.

In the video above, Mabrey is seen getting off the bench to check on Cunningham. Mabrey even helped the Fever players hold up Gatorade towels to cover Cunningham as she was writhing in pain on the floor.
Another video showcasing Mabrey's action shortly after the final buzzer is also making its rounds on social media. In it, Mabrey is seen congratulating Kelsey Mitchell after the latter’s 38-point explosion led the Fever to a hard-fought 99-93 win against Connecticut in overtime.
I missed this after the game, but Marina Mabrey — who was off the Sun bench and helping out when Sophie Cunningham went down — stopped to congratulate Kelsey Mitchell postgame. That’s pretty rad. pic.twitter.com/nUykzjs5DG

Mabrey may be an intense competitor, but her actions during Sunday’s contest prove how much respect she has for her opponents. Whether this changes the Fever fans’ perception of her, though, remains to be seen.
