CHICAGO — The Phoenix Mercury completed a sweep of their road trip after defeating the Chicago Sky, 107-86, on June 21 at Wintrust Arena.

Dominant Offense

The Mercury relied on defense and turnovers against the Sky to establish a commanding 31-18 lead in the first quarter, setting a new season-high for points in the first. Sami Whitcomb dominated beyond the arc, shooting 5-for-9 with 15 points before the end of the second quarter. Phoenix made the most three-point shots in the first half by any WNBA team with 12, and took a 58-43 lead after two.

Phoenix opened up the third quarter with an 11-3 run and extended their lead to 25 points. As a team, the Mercury were shooting 56.5% from the field and 57.1% from beyond the arc. Phoenix broke triple digits for the first time this season with all players scoring against Chicago.

Whitcomb led scoring for the Mercury with 17 points.

Kamilla Cardoso led scoring for the Sky with 17 points.

Five Game Winning Streak

Phoenix has now won five in a row for the first time since 2021, ending a four-game trip 4-0. The Mercury currently hold the longest win streak in the WNBA at the moment.

Whitcomb spoke to the media after the game about the importance of the road trip for the team and credited the defense for the sweep.

“I think [we] really showed our true character, and stepping up to every occasion,” she said, referencing the tough road stretch. “And knowing that it was going to be difficult, but if we did show up every game defensively, we [would] put ourselves in a really great position. I think we did that for four games.”

Coming Back Home

The Phoenix Mercury head back to the desert and will have a rematch against the New York Liberty on Friday, June 27 at PHX Arena.
