Mercury F Copper wants to ‘bring another championship to the Valley’
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Following the Phoenix Mercury pulling off a gargantuan trade to land WNBA star Kahleah Copper from the Chicago Sky, she has expressed her feelings on heading to the Valley.

This morning, the Mercury acquired Copper and forward Morgan Bertsch in a deal that sent forwards Brianna Turner, Michaela Onyenwere, Phoenix’s 2024 first-round pick (third overall), 2026 first-round pick, 2025 second-round pick and the rights to a 2026 second-round pick swap to the Sky.

According to the Mercury on X (formerly Twitter), Copper can’t wait to get started with her new team and will strive for success.

“Phoenix, I am ready and I am all in,” Copper said. “To my teammates and coaches: you’re getting all of me. My hunger, my desire, my competitive spirit. Every. Damn. Possession. X-Factor, I can’t wait to be on your side and bring another championship to the Valley. Let’s get it!”

In a press release, Mercury general manger Nick U’Ren also weighed in on the trade and why he pursued Copper and Bertsch.

“The opportunity to add a player of Kahleah’s caliber in the prime of her career is rare,” said U’Ren. “She is one of the most dynamic and athletic players in our league, with a true knack for scoring the ball. She is also a fierce competitor, proven champion and the ultimate two-way player, who can disrupt the game on the defensive end with her length and activity. Morgan is a sharpshooter and savvy defender – we are excited for the energy and scoring punch she can provide off the bench.”

With the off-season additions of Copper, Bertsch, Natasha Cloud and Rebecca Allen, U’Ren is trying to construct a championship caliber roster that the Mercury faithful will enjoy.
