CHICAGO — The Phoenix Mercury aim for a clean sweep of their four-game road trip as they face the Chicago Sky on Saturday morning.
Phoenix Preview
The Mercury look to ride a four-game win streak, with their latest win against the New York Liberty, 89-81, at Barclays Center on June 19. The Mercury defense put pressure on the Liberty, creating 14 turnovers against the reigning champions in the first half.
Mercury’s Sami Whitcomb and Monique Akoa Makani led a 16-6 run in the fourth quarter with 3:10 left to propel them to the win. The Mercury handed the Liberty their second loss of the season and first loss at home.
Akoa Makani scored a career-high of 21 points in the win
New York’s Breanna Stewart scored 35 points, a season high.
The Mercury are 10-4 and sit in second in the Western Conference.
Chicago Preview
Chicago comes off a heartbreaker, falling against the Washington Mystics late, 79-72, on June 17. The Sky took a good lead to end the first half, 44-32, but the Mystics came out fighting to start the third quarter.
Washington went on a 24-12 run and tied the game up, 56-56, to end the third. Both teams exchanged shots, but Brittney Sykes’ three-point shot with 2:17 left in the game helped the Mystics keep the lead.
Kamilla Cardoso led scoring for the Sky with 18 points.
Sykes led scoring for the Mystics with 32 points.
The Sky are 3-8 in the season and are 5th in the Eastern Conference.
Last Meeting
Phoenix and Chicago last met on May 27 at PHX Arena, where the Mercury emerged victorious, 94-89.
