PHOENIX — The Phoenix Mercury begin their weekend homestand with a rematch against the reigning WNBA Champions, the New York Liberty, on Friday, June 27 at PHX Arena.
Phoenix Preview
The Mercury come off a dominant showing against the Chicago Sky, 107-86, on June 22. Phoenix led Chicago by double digits in the first three quarters and scored a season high of 107 as a team. They made the most shots from beyond the arc in a single game in Mercury history with 17.
Sami Whitcomb led the scoring for Phoenix with 17 points, shooting 50.0% from the field and 50.0% from three.
Kamilla Cardoso led the scoring for Chicago with 17 points and shooting 77.8% from the field.
Phoenix is second in the Western Conference with an 11-4 record.
New York Preview
The Liberty defeated the Golden State Valkyries, 81-78, in a close match-up on June 25. The Valkries took an early lead, 32-29, after the first quarter. New York responded to take the lead into halftime, but struggled to keep the lead in the second half. Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu made seven crucial free throws in the last two minutes to keep New York ahead.
Breanna Stewart led scoring for the Liberty with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Kate Martin led scoring for the Valkyries with 21 points, shooting 46.7% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc.
New York continues to hold first place in the Eastern Conference with an 11-3 record.

The Mercury and the Liberty last met on June 19, where the Mercury gave the Liberty their first home loss of the season, 89-81.
